San Francisco: Orpheum Theater Area Safety

Hello there! I'm going to San Francisco next weekend and will see 'The Lion King' show in Orpheum Theater (8pm). I've read the theater is not on a particularly safe area and although I don't have any worries on getting to the theater, getting back to my hotel in the Nob Hill area around 11:30 pm bothers me a bit. Are there many taxis available on this area by this time? I'll appreciate your input or any tips. Thanks!

I would recommend hailing a cab. We just saw Lion King at the Orpheum as well. We chose to walk back to our parking garage (near the restaurant we'd gone to prior to the show). That was a mistake! It was a lovely evening, but we encountered some very aggressive pan handlers that really scared our son. It's a bit of a mob scene for cabs just outside the theatre, but walk down market a block or two and you should be able to hail one. There are plenty of other theatre goers out at that time so it's relatively safe - just very seedy looking on Market. Next time we will definitely take a taxi even for a short ride out of that area.

Do not walk alone in that area. Stay with the other theatre goers until you get a cab.

Thanks so much for the tips ellenbw and enjoylife. I will be by myself so I'll stay with the crowd after the show and definitely hail a cab.

It's all been said...

ENJOY!

Note: the drinks(juice/soda) are $6.00...my small bottle water was $3.00. I have to hydrate so I bought the water.

All else was FABULOUS****
