Hey jason888! There does seem to be a regular pattern of attack for this person. The juvenile put-downs haven't been seen recently-- I guess Fodors cuts the poster off before that can happen now. The sloppy spelling usually gives him/her away ("Union Sqaure", here I come!!).
Here's my perspective: I work in Santa Monica, two blocks from the Third Street Promenade. Union Square's homeless don't have ANYTHING on the poor wretched souls on Third Street. And do I feel unsafe? Not in the slightest. I never feel unsafe going to gallery openings in Hollywood or Venice or Long Beach (although I did have my car broken into in North Hollywood once). I use common sense. Does "Jaredson" think we're ALL idiots? Does he/she picture us walking around with $100 bills taped to our clothing and signs on our backs saying "Mug Me"?!

Answer for "realtor" -
It would be difficult to get into a "name" restaurant like Boulevard or Acqua on a weekend night without reserving. Your best bet would be a smaller place EARLY in the evening - like before 6:30 p.m. Then there are places like Tadich's which simply do not take reservations - you'd be on equal footing with everyone who wanted to eat there.
Cioppino? The last one I had was at Rose Pistola in North Beach and it was good. Make sure they give you a decent nutcracker or other implement to deal with the crab claws. I thought the cioppino at Tadich's was too thickly tomato-ed, but that's a matter of taste. Bouillabaise and bourride are two other seafood stews which are frequently on San Francisco menus and would suit someone who likes cioppino.

Why "Jaredson", whatever are you talking about?! No one's "on the attack" other than you (and "Chilin" or the other screen names you utilize-- that's why Fodors tends to "disrgard" your posts and delete them). Now, I'm wondering: What exactly happened to you in "Union Sqaure"?

RE: seafood on the wharf
In the crisp November air, there's nothing I'd like more than to walk past all the outdoor seafood places lined up on the wharf, wrap my scarf a little tighter, and settle in with hot chowder in a bread bowl. That defines a wonderful cold day in the SF fog to me. And go see if the sea lions have their scarves and mittens on too.

Jason,
I AM in southern california--a Valley girl, no less, although I've been spending a lot of time in Santa Cruz lately. You and all my other alter egos do seem like a fine bunch. And yes, rjw's advice is some of the best!

Shucks, I'm jus' tryin' to help fellow travelers. BTW roxy, kudos on recommending Olvera Street to that person needing to do something on the way to CalTech! Beautiful idea.
jason888 buddy, keep up the good work in keeping it "real" up north!
