San Francisco Hotels: OMNI versus Argent and Clift

My travel agent has changed our hotel from the cliff san francisco to the omni san francisco (mid july) , can anyone give me any feedback on this hotel??
can anyone compare it to the Argent hotel (in which we are still on the waiting list?)I'll be great to know the pros and cons of the 3hotels!!
thank you all!

The Clift is one of the fine old SF hotels; good location near Union Square and the theater district/restaurants.

seems to me the Omni san fran. appeared on this years CN Traveler's Gold List for hotels(...or it could've been Travel&Leisure mag., can't remember.)
But I do remember the blurb citing great service as a reason for it's inclusion in the best hotel list...so it may be a good spot to stay!

you might be right and I should give it a chance!! has anybody stayed at the argent??
One more thing someone has told me that the Omni is in a quiet area...by that do they mean it is in a boring area? or that is fra away from everything? I thought it was just by the clift and in Union square..

Omni is in the financial district area, on the cable car line, convenient to everything by public transportation. I don't know if it gets deserted in the evenings - don't work late.

I'm not familiar with the Argent since it switched over from the ANA. I wouldn't be recommending it to anyone, though.

The Clift (I'm assuming that's the hotel you're referring to) is not the old dame she used to be. Ian Schraeger took it over and Philipe Starck did the redesigned. My experience with Schraeger hotels is that their uncomfortable and the service is crap. I've had drinks in many of his lounges and never stay for more than two if only to take in Starck's handi-work.

The Omni is in the Financial District. Mind you, none of these are very far from each other so I wouldn't get too down over its location. It's very new and quite traditional. Bob's Chop House downstairs has the best damn burgers. I've stayed at Omni Hotels in other cities and all I can say is that framed portraits of Whippets aren't really my speed. You will, however, get great service and that is always, always key IMO.

The Omni San Francisco is beautiful. Far nicer than the Argent. Can't comment on the Clift but I agree with the "have a drink there but stay elsewhere" sentiment.

I've stayed and the Omni and have been in the Clift. If you want trendy, dark, and very small rooms do the Clift. The area isn't that great at night though- I would cab it- especially if you're alone. It's also right across the street from the Monaco which I did like. As for the Omni, the rooms are large and it's a more historic hotel. I had a workout room so they brought me a treadmill and hand weights. Also register for their preferred guest program before you go and you'll get 2 free morning drinks delivered daily and have a reduced price breakfast room service menu. I really enjoyed the Omni. It is close to the Embarcadero, China Town, and Union Square...once again, I wouldn't venture alone walking at night- just general safety.
