Even if you don't stay at the Inn of the Presidio - this map they provide should help you understand more about the Presidio and the adjacent Marina area. Just scroll around:

And if you do wander down Union St - please stop in and say hi to Glenda at her "new" gold/jewelry shop - http://www.unionstreetgoldsmith.com/...endaQueen.html & http://www.unionstreetgoldsmith.com/...endaQueen.html

from Tom in San Diego - who used to share her parking spot when she was located two blocks up the street. Parking is at a premium in the Cow Hollow/Marina area - and since I commuted to work - Glenda had her spot in the apartment building garage (she had a streetfront shop in the buildng we lived in) -during the day - and I shared it/rented it at night.

And my favorite motel type property is called the Chelsea Motor Inn - on Lombard, http://www.hotelsone.com/san-francis...FRSVfgodzXsA9g

or one of it's sister hotels, but there are also several B & B's in the Cow Hollow/Union St area that might really fit your preferences/needs.

Note that I didn't hear street noise when I stayed there - but a many of the other ones along Lombard can have street noise.

Just keep googling away.

The inn at The Presidio is lovely but it is pretty far removed from the sites a typical first time visitor would want to visit. Also, it isn't all that convenient to get to and from.

Jetsetter has good deals when you get a flash sale price, otherwise the hotel may have similar prices .Tripadvisor has a good pricing system for hotels that allows you to see all prices offered by hotel direct and other popular 3rd party sites. Keep in mind, Jetsetter rooms are prepaid with no refunds.

I think Stu and his brother in San Diego scared the OP off.

THEE Stu...if he is, he's your much older brother.

At least you give current, up to date info and not stories about being Emperor Norton's mentor, manning the bucket brigade in The Great Quake of ought six or riding a Wells Fargo buckboard along the Barbary Coast.

If Kal da Komic is per chance referring to moi - never imbibed with the Good Emperor - but did once go to party where Sally Sanford was holding forth. Think she was the more interesting of the two.

As for our poster - not sure for $300 per night they are going to be able to satisfy their lodging requirements.

I agree with Tomsd. They may need to up their budget in order to get what they want.

Check travelzoo.com to see if they have any specials that may work.
