San Francisco Hotel Help

Hello,
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon trip to Hawaii. We would like to stay in SF for a night on either end. We would like a hotel with a shuttle from the airport if possible. I would like to be more near the heart of the city, possibly Union Square, rather than right near the airport.
Can you recommend any hotels? - price is not really a concern.
Thanks for your help,
Diana

My husband and I stayed the the Westin St. Francis right in the heart of Union Square. We were very happy with the hotel and location. Ask for a room with a view (higher floor) though, our first room looked right into another building. I am not sure about a shuttle service, you'll have to check with the hotel.

I've stayed at the Westin St. Francis. It is nice, but the rooms are really tiny and as the previous poster mentioned, no view (if that's important to you). The location is great and I've found most of their staff very nice as well. If you're looking for a Westin property, then you might want to look at the W hotel - located in SoMa, near the art museum, easily walkable to everything else (SF is a VERY walkable city - bring good shoes!) Nob Hill might be another location for you - Ritz Carlton is there as well as the Fairmont and the Mark Hopkins (least of my favorite). There are also a few boutique hotels there as well e.g., Lambourne.

As far as shuttle service, I've never seen a hotel that's in town provide shuttle service from SFO. You can arrange previously for a car to pick you up, take a taxi (about $40 each way from airport to downtown) or take the Super Shuttle ($16 each way) to the hotel. Congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming nuptuals!

Go to www.sfvisitor.org or www.sfgate.com for hotel suggestions in SF. A thousand years ago when we lived in Chicago (now in Bay area) we spent our wedding night at the St. Francis in SF before a flight to Hawaii. Don't think they have a shuttle, but a taxi ride is not expensive. Whatever you do, don't rent a car!! Congratulations and enjoy SF.

Now that I've read the other's ideas well.....the St. FRancis has a relatively new "tower"--bigger rooms and better views. If you stay in the old hotel, ask for a view of Union Square and not of the other wing of the hotel!

I stayed at the Clift Hotel right down the street from the St. Francis. When I go back this is where I will stay.
Good location great view, the rite price and it is one of those Historic hotels.

In SF I have stayed at The Clift, The Fairmont, The Monaco (across the street) and The Prescott (Postrios Restaurant). I recommend them in that order. Do not stay at the Hilton.
Have a wonderful honeymoon.

I've gone to S.F. at least once a year for the past 18 years. My very favorite is the Prescott, host to Puck's Postrio. It's very European, and unlike the Ritz and Westin, very intimate. If you get the club floor, you'll have a complementary breakfast and evening hors d'oerves/wine catered by Postrio. It's about $300+/- depending upon the time of year. Now, my next favorite is the Villa Florence, home to Kuleto's restaurant. Again, a very European feel, intimate, close to everything and very charming. Prices here are a lot less $150+/-. Both have websites.

Hope this helps and have a great trip!

Now, will someone answer my post about Boston????
