San Francisco area
Hi
I've posted here before about my honeymoon next year and the replies have been very helpful...I have another query though!!!
For 1st week of honeymoon we are looking for a very relaxing resort - quite quiet nice restaurants bit of luxury in the hotel but ideally near enough to a 'city' to be able to have a day or two there. Now I can find places like this near LA (Palm Springs etc) and can find nice resorts in San Diego, but all I can find in or near San Fransisco is 'city hotels'. Am I missing any?
Are there are really nice relaxing hotel/resorts in or around the San Francisco area???
Thanks
Martin

Try the Claremont in Oakland. Convenient to SF (although I honestly don't know much about the public transit to the hotel) and always rated very highly (AAA 4 diamond, etc.). www.claremontresort.com

The Saratoga Oaks Lodge or the Inn at Saratoga are both very nice properties in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. San Jose is only about 10 miles from Saratoga when you want to take advantage of the city.

There's a lovely little town just outside of San Francisco called Half Moon Bay. There's a new Ritz Carlton resort there and I've heard it's fantastic. I stayed at a place called the Beach House which is right on the ocean--a smaller place than the Ritz but still quite charming. There's a hot tub, exercise room, massage services, etc. Try a search on Half Moon Bay and you'll probably come up with more as this is quite a popular area.

My husband and I had the first 3 days of our honeymoon in San Francisco at the Ritz Carlton and it was wonderful. We were on the club level which is like a hotel within a hotel. Very relaxing and quiet. Right outside though is all the activity you need. It was perfect. The next few days were spent at Meadowood in Napa Valley. Look into that. I think you'd like that resort if you want relaxing and luxury. www.meadowood.com

What is your idea of the perfect resort? Half Moon Bay is wonderful and a short drive ( in CA terms) to the City. The Beach House is lovely and quiet, on the calm water break, the end and street sides get the sounds of the heavy traffic. Anchorage Restaurant next door provides room service. Nice pool and Hot tub ( I really love in thick fog!) Nice soaking bathtubs in room.
The Ritz is also lovely, fabulous dining, nice soaking bathtubs, Hot tub on the cliff above the Pacific and the most fabulous sound of strong surf.
If you want a "Fabulous" treat, not near the City for a night or two, the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is memorable for life! Japanese jetted soaking tubs, the quietest place imaginable, Sierra Mar Dining is exquisite! Infinity Hot tub at night over the Pacific is beyond discription, especially under a full moon.
If you like the more personal touch of a B&B, back to Half Moon Bay, the Landis Shores Inn is delightful. Private, quiet, exceptional innkeepers, wonderful breakfast & afternoon wine and cheese. Right on the beach with the sound of the surf.

Another thought, are you arriving in New York first? If California is still a posibility, you might check the www.jetblue.com flights to OAKland CA airport, easier, less fog which means better 'on time' service, than San Francisco Airport.
Then easy drive south and then 92 west to Half Moon Bay Hwy 1, then either direction you like.
I've always dreamed of visiting my Robertson Scottish heritage!

You can't go wrong with either the Inn at Saratoga or the Saratoga Oaks Lodge. The location in the Santa Cruz Mountain foothills is beautiful and peaceful. It's very close to San Jose if you want to go to the city for the evening, etc. and also about 30 minutes from the Monterey Bay.
