San Francisco Area

We will be spending one night in San Francisco. We will be there on a Saturday morning and have to leave 5am the next morning. I want to make the most of it. What part of town should we stay in? Since we have to fly out so early should we stay by the airport? Any info would be helpful.

I think you answered your own question--since you have to fly out so early you probably should stay at the airport. There are numerous chain hotels around SFO. BTW what airlines has flights that early?

Don't stay at the airport...you will be sorry! Who are these people who are leaving these messages, anyway? I live in the city and I am telling you that you want to stay in the city--Fisherman's wharf and Union Square are the norms. A 5:00 am taxi will have you at the airport well within 20 minutes.

I agree with the others about staying near the airport. I stay there frequently when in town on business and it's not the nasty place that the prervious poster is making it out to be. For one thing, BART does not run early enough to get you to the airport for your morning flight. It will also be difficult to arrange for a cab or shuttle that early as well. The airport hotels have free shuttles to SFO.

I second staying in the city...I also live here and any hotel will be able to get you a taxi in the morning and there is absolutely no traffic on a Sunday morning at 5am...This way you can do the day thing and then go out for a nice dinnet somewhere and maybe even a little nightlife, non of which you will do once you return to a hotel by the airprot. You will just hang out in the hotel, there is no where to go! Enjoy the city for the full time.

lovetogo--I'm confused, is your flight leaving at 5am or is just your estimate of when you will have to leave for airport? If it is the former I stand by my recommendation that you stay at an airport hotel, if the latter your transportation options from the city are better--as I believe the first BART train, during the week, to SFO leaves downtown around 4:30 a.m.

"Next morning" is the Sunday morning. BART opens all stations at 8 am. Due to security you should be at the airport 3 am the latest, if not at 2 am. Why not to stay up late in the night and catch one of latest BART trains? You can sleep on the plane. Well, it depends on your age and how adventurous you are.

LTG,

Agree with the poster who says that it depends on whether your flight is at 5, or whether you think you have to leave for the airport at 5.

What time is your flight?
