San Francisco

My wife and I are planning our first visit to S.F. during Thanksgiving week. We also would like to drive South on a scenic hwy. and stay a few nights in a picturesque location. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You should provide information about your budget, how far you're going to drive, where you'd like to end up, etc. More info the better.

I would drive north of San Francisco, along the coast, to places like Point Reyes, Bodega Bay, Gualala and Elk.
The scenery is beautiful.

AND the scenery is just as beautiful south of San Francisco. Big Sur comes to mind.

Wed. eve Nov 21st. Go to the top of the Mark Hopkins hotel for a drink and view of the city while listening to the fantastic jazz/swing band of LaVay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Not to be missed.

North or south - you will get some fantastic scenery. What you choose depends on your budget and what you want in addition to scenery - ie. how much civilization, type of restaurants, activities, and so forth.

There is a fire house museum next to the fire station on Presidio @Bush/Euclid. The museum is free, but opened limited hours. Bus lines # 1,2,3.

Driving north to Point Reyes, etc. as suggested by egret would be excellent if natural scenery is what you're looking for. Driving south to Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur if you want a combination of scenery, redwoods and cute/scenic towns.
