San Fran to Morro Bay and back in three days

So I posted a topic about advice on a trip to Cali. Thanks for everyone's advice!

Have made some decisions on what to do. We will stay in San Fran without a rental car for the weekend. Then we will rent a car and head down to Morro on Monday morn and return Wednesday evening.

Planning an staying going all the way to Morro on Monday, and staying there on Monday night, heading up to Carmel-by-the-Sea and staying there Tuesday. Stopping at the aquarium, Pebble Beach, Santa Cruz, and all that fun stuff...

Any advise for impressing a girlfriend with photo freindly scenery is much appreciated, as well and any other tips, advise, warnings are welcome. Thanks!!!

Point Lobos just outside Carmel will afford you drop dead views and photo ops. Try mid coast Pinot Noir and chards. You might want to check out Big Basin rather than the boardwalk @ Santa Cruz.

Some great photo spots
Piedras Blancas lighthouse and elephant seal rookery - usually Dec. for the seals.
Point Sur lighthouse
Ragged Point
San Simeon
Bixby and Big Creek bridges on Hwy 1 - I think Bixby is best seen driving south and Big Creek views are best driving north.
If want an alternative route back to Carmel, and want to visit some wineries, you can take Hwy 46 from Cambria over to Paso Robles and the 101. Many wine opportunities along 46. Of course the drive up thje 101 doesn't come close to the views from Hwy 1.

Point Lobos, as Pam has recommended. Good weather helps a great deal in enjoying this State Reserve.

Otherwise, on the way down, stop off at:

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park - go for a short hike in the Redwoods, 1/2 hour should be fine.

Pfeiffer Big Sur is inland and a few miles south the moment you see the ocean, on the right look for

Nepenthe - again on a good day the view is fantastic (the food may be so-so or very good)

About 20 miles south of Nepenthe is Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, where you can take the short and easy hike to see McWay Falls, the only falls in California to descend directly into the Pacific ocean.

Here's a Big Sur website and their map to help you further with your Big Sur plans. There are plenty of other things, such as the Henry Miller Library, to fit your interests.

Enjoy!

Chcck the weather in Morro Bay before you drive down. It is often foggy all day and not conducive to picture taking. I mean socked in "can't even see the rock" fog!

If that's the case, you could head back up to Carmel and spend the extra time is Big Sur, Carmel or SF.

She may want to stay all day at Point Lobos... or refuse to leave San Francisco! lol

Have a wonderful time!
