San Diego restaurants

We are going to San Diego soon and will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. Any suggestions on restaurants for a special meal? We will be staying at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. My husband likes fish, steak, chicken. I prefer chicken or steak. Would probably prefer Continental/American/French cuisine. Ideas???

I suggest Georges in LaJolla - quite expensive- so if too much for dinner-
try lunch- incredible open patio with
ocean view

Or The Marine Room in La Jolla for good food & a spectacular ocean view. Best @ sunset or lunch. At night, you stil have a nice view of the ocean water rushing since there are lights shining to the ocean side.

Expensive. Reservation Rec. Valet parking or park on street. Their lobster bisque is excellent.

if price is an issue, you should tell us what the budget is. otherwise, the two suggestions above are good.

As it's a special occaision, price isn't really an issue. I will check out the above suggestions--thanks. Will we need a car to get to La Jolla, or is there public transportation/taxi, etc.?

I would suggest either Lou & Mickeys (steaks and seafood) or Mortons (steaks). Both are located in the Gaslamp District and would be an easy walk from your hotel.

You will need a car to get to La Jolla fr. downtown. Not sure how much it would cost for a ~ 20' taxi ride. Check w/ your hotel's concierge.

Otherwise, there is another nice seafood/steak house nearby downtown ( within walking distance or a short taxi ride): McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant. It does not have a spectacular view like the Marine room in La jolla, though. It's a seafodd restaurant but their steak is good.

Molly in the Marriot nearby your hotel has good crab cake & fish; they have steak on menu but I have not tried their steak.

Enjoy!

My DH and I LOVE Lou and Mickeys. Great place. Wonderful steaks. Also love Dobsons. One of the best places to eat anywhere. Small intimate place. Also Flemings is near there and though I haven't tried it, is also very good. You are very near the Gaslamp area and there must be about 50 restaurants within walking distance. The Gaslamp is known for wonderful Italian restaurants. I can't pick just one. We have loved Panevino, and there is one with Portebello in the name. And DeMedici's. All great food. Gaslamp has wonderful restaurants and bars. Fun place.

Dobson's rocks.

George's in La Jolla is wonderful.

Restaurant Nine Ten (in the Grande Colonial Hotel) in La Jolla is brilliant.

Morton's and McCormick and Schmick's are chain restaurants. Why not go somewhere special and great instead of merely very good and expensive?

For steak, I recommend Donovan's in the UTC area. You will need a car or taxi to get there.

I had lunch in Dobson's last week. I love Dobson's, but I really think there are better options for a very special dinner.

I agree that George's is great. You should also consider Thee Bungalow.
