San Diego Hotels

Hello. My new wife and I will be looking for a short romantic getaway (not our honeymoon) in San Diego. I have visited SD before, but have never stayed at a nice hotel. We are looking for something nice but close to all the attractions. I know the Hotel Del is famous but seems far from everything. Also, I have heard great things about La Valencia. We are the type who like to be able to see a lot of local attractions rather than just sit on a beach. Thanks for you input!

Check out the HOtel Solara downtown right in the gaslamp area. You can walk everywhere from there. It is a lovely boutique hotel from the Kimpton hotel group. Another hotel I love is the Estancia. It is in La Jolla but you would need to drive to all other activities.

Do you mean to advise them to stay at the Hotel Solamar? It is in the Gaslamp District, and very close to Petco Park. We are staying there for our first time in early June, and can hardly wait! We have heard such great things about Hotel Solamar, on every website that we can find! We are easy-going travelers, but enjoy the finer things too...this hotel should satisfy both.

Yes, yikes sorry....I get dyslexic with that name; I find it so unmemorable especially for such a lovely hotel. It is on J and 6th and has a very cool zen vibe, at least to me. Just my style....

I can recommend the Omni (located right downtown, next to Petco Park) from firsthand experience. I also agree with the Estancia (La Jolla) recommendation, and you can't go wrong with La Valencia (also in La Jolla). The Bahia and Catamaran on Mission Bay are also quite romantic for their locations.
