I will be visiting san diego for several days in november. I have never been to the west coast and was really interested in LA, hollywood etc.. Is this possible as a daytrip, and if so, what tours could you recommend?

LA is doable as a daytrip, but it will be a long day. Why not drive up and rent a room for the night so you can have a more relaxing vacation? There's so much to do in LA that you don't want to limit yourself to just a few hours.

san diego is a great city & if you only have several days, i'd stay put. do l.a. on another trip (& trust me doing the "hollywood" thing is VERY disappointing)

Having several days to enjoy San Diego, I'd suggest you take a few day break and head north to Los Angeles for some sightseeing. If you've never been to the West Coast, why limit yourself to one city when you state that you'd like to see LA?

Unless you know someone that can tour you around and really show you the cool places (and star searching) you'll just be wandering around and stuck in traffic like most tourists. Stay put and make LA another trip that you can plan out.

I agree with Tom, previous post. I grew up in LA( and now living in SD for 25 years) and he's right. If you don't have someone showing you the sights, freeway connections etc. you will be lost and will have a frustrating time. Plan on spending 2 days up there. Check other posts for itineraries. San Diego is great.
