We are headed to San Diego end of July and looking for restaurant recommendations. Staying in Mission Beach, but interested in all areas and all types of restaurants. Thank you!

Awesome fastfood is In N Out, all they have are burgers, they are not frozen & they are great. The fries are not frozen either, cut right there in the store. Casual we love Islands, there are several around. They have great burgers too (barbq, teriyaki) and grilled chicken sandwiches & chicken & fish tacos, they also have great fries, with cheese & bacon if you like. If you like iced tea, they have a passion fruit iced tea that is my favorite. I take visitors to Busters at Seaport Village. It is on the edge of downtown, on the bay. You can dine outside. The food is great, wide variety, and everyone I have taken there has always liked what they got. The pizza is good if you like it very thin. Also casual is California Pizza Kitchen, they have pizzas like barbq chicken, thai chicken, portabello mushroom & their salads are wonderful too. Have a great visit!

YOU HAVE TO try Cafe Sevilla in the gaslamp quarter downtown. located at: 555 4th Ave, San Diego CA 92101 - phone number: (619) 233-5979 (reservations are pretty essential on the weekends especially) Open 5:00pm - 2:00am - 7 days a week.

it is INCREDIBLE! they have a website. i think it is "www.cafesevilla.com". they serve spanish/mexican/californian type food - tapas, incredible sangria and wines. VERY VERY good food. hope you enjoy! also, try to do a morning brunch or breakfast at hotel del coronado if you have the time/budget. it is beatuiful and enjoyable. and, elaine was right about islands, in-n-out and ca pizza kitchen for more inexpensive and casual dining... - if you don't live in california, my husband and i really enjoy claim jumper as well. they serve HUGE portions of wonderful american food - everything you can think of...they can be a bit on the expensive side, but worth every penny! have fun in SD!

For good Mexican food, I'd suggest Miguel's Cocina on Coronado Island (there's also a Shelter Island location). Be sure to ask for them to bring out some of their yummy cheese sauce with your chips.

Nick's in Pacific Beach is also a good place for dinner.

The Eggery, on Mission Blvd. in Pacific Beach is a good place for breakfast. The Broken Yolk on Garnet Ave. is another popular breakfast hangout.

Nothing fancy, but a favorite for taquitos is El Indio's - plenty of pleasant outdoor seating at this India Street location.

We LOVED the Coyote Cafe (or might be called Coyote Cantina) in the Old Town area - we went back twice more after the first time!
Also very much enjoyed Peohe's on Coronado.

Definitely take the time to go up to La Jolla. Georges' was great and many other nice places to dine. Check out the two sites referenced below -

You definitely need to have breakfast at the Broken Yolk in Pacific Beach. If you are looking for great, cheap sushi, right down the street from the Broken Yolk is a sushi place called Ichiban (I think that's the name, it's been 2 years since I left!). We lived right behind it, and ate there almost 2 times a week. Oh, and the mexican place on Prospect in La Jolla (might be George's but I don't remember the name, it has a maroon awning) is excellent.
The Gaslamp has some great little places, also. Have a great time!

I believe the mexican place on prospect is Alfonso's.

Our favorite restaurant was Sally's at the Hyatt. We had heard they had the best crab cakes ever, and it was certainly true! Also great swordfish, and the orange chocolate mouse was incredible. Beautiful place, too. It was not cheap, but by far the best meal we had in town and worth every penny.

Another to consider is Hash House A-Go Go....absolutely wonderful dinner and I think they are open for Sunday breakfast and lunch through the week. Don't let the name put you off, I believe it was previously a house converted, beautifully, to a restaurant and is located in a nice area...they do have a website and you can make reservations.
