San Diego Area - Kid Friendly Restaurants

My DH and I are spending a week in Carlsbad in a couple weeks w/ our 4-yo son. We are looking for recommendations for restaurants that are fun for our son and have good food for all of us. We are open to all kinds of cuisine. We are looking to stay away from chains since we have most of the same chains here in AZ. TIA!

The Corvette Diner is a lot of fun. Fun for all ages. There is 50s memorabilia everywhere and an actual Corvette in the dining room. The menu is good - burgers, sandwiches, typical diner fare. Plus they have a full page of things from the soda fountain. Lots of fun.

Karl Strauss is a good restaurant for kids and adults. There is one located near Legoland. I haven't been to that location but have been to the one in Mira Mesa area with a large group of kids and adults and it was perfect for all. Las Olas is also a good choice on Coast Highway in Carlsbad.

The Corvette Diner is a fun choice if you are visiting Balboa Park or the SD Zoo. Good choices in the Carlsbad area are Las Olas or Fidel's for Mexican cuisine along with Pizza Port and Karl Strauss. Pannikin in Leucadia/Encinitas and Pipe's in Cardiff are fun for a breakfast near the beach. Ki's is a nice stop for lunch in Cardiff.

I agree with Carol_SD, either Pizza Port or Las Olas are excellent.

If you're in Coronado, Miguel's Cocina has great Mexican food, it is located in the courtyard of the El Cordova Hotel, right across the stret from Hotel Del Coronado. They have a fun, festive patio area that we enjoyed when we dined there this past December. Have fun in San Diego! ***kim***
