Lunch at Alphonso's and dinner at George's at the Cove in La Jolla sounds great - I have done that more than once.
Don't forget Thee Bungalow in Ocean Beach for an alternate dinner and Hash Haus on 5th for a "unique" breakfast if you have the need.
Pretty good advice on this thread overall for a one day adventure.
