San Antonio to Austin
We'll be in San Antonio for a few days, and plan to drive to Austin for dinner at The Salt Lick (their choice) with our nephew and his wife, who live in Austin. We might just spend the day "getting to" Austin/dinner. If we do, what should we not miss on the way and in Austin?

We just returned from a great trip to Austin and a side trip to Gruene (pronounced "green". It is a lovely hill country town with lots of shops and a great restaurant, Grist Mill Restaurant, which has gorgeous views of the Guadalupe River. If the weather is nice (and I'm sure it will be) just walking around this historic town with shops and eating a lazy lunch will provide several hours of fun.
Also, if you watched the movie "Michael" with John Travolta, you many remember the dance scene in a bar. It was filmed at Gruene Hall (that info was provided by my Austin fodorite friend, swisshiker! )
And be sure to have a famous cupcake from "Hey Cupcake" on South Congress. Just look for the silver airstream trailer with the spinning cupcake on top!
