San Antonio Thanksgiving Dinner Recommendation

Will be in San Antonio over Thanksgiving. Any recommendations for a great Thanksgiving dinner or buffet?

I don't know if this reply is too late, but a couple of great options would be Biga on the Banks (if open that day) and the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort. Both are on the upper end with regard to cuisine and price.

Lenhan,

New reply to a new reply to an old thread.

I was in SA last week - stayed one night on the Riverwalk (Hyatt) and a few days at Hill Country Hyatt. Ate at Biga's on the Bank one evening for dinner so here's a passdown.

In the past I've spent Fri/Sat AFTER Thanksgiving at the HC Hyatt and always had a great time. The pool (incl lazy river) is open and heated, so even if the air is a little chilly you can still enjoy the resort. The weather in SA in Nov is usually nice fall weather. They still have evening campfires w/ smores and movies on the green for the kids. I've never had a holiday meal there, but the Antlers Lodge restaruant on property is always excellent. Thanksgiving draws a HUGE family crowd, so if you have any indication of staying there, book today and cancel later if you change your mind. At Thanksgiving, the place is already decorated for Christmas - gingerbread houses in the lobby, fire in the fireplace, etc so it's quite a festive place to enjoy a few days.

Regarding Biga's, it has it's good and bad points, in my opinion. On the good side is the food. Very creative, delicious food, top notch service. Definitely several cuts above the typical riverwalk dinner. One of the things I really like about SA is peoplewatching on the riverwalk. Biga's is on the far/quiet end of the river, next to the Westin, so there is basically no foot traffic to watch, no nearby festive noise to get you in the mood. I was also there mid-week, so the restaurant was even further on the quiet side (although the town & riverwalk were as busy as ever)

Another place that's highly recommended but I haven't been to yet is Boudros. It's right in the middle of the action and is supposed to have excellent food and service as well.

If I were going to SA this Thanksgiving, I'd stay at HC Hyatt 2-3 nights, have Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel, then go out on the town Friday to Boudros.

After you eat your T-day buffet or dinner, make plans to check in for the night (Friday after T-day) at the Marriot RiverWALK (not RiverCENTER). Every year our family and friends have lived the tradition of staying at this hotel for the incredible "Lighting of the River and Parade". However, if you decide you want to do this, you must make reservation NOW! We usually get 4-6 adjoining rooms (riverview, of course!) and bring all sorts of food and beverages. We invite friends and extended family - they say it's one of the best parties of the year! With the entertainment included (holiday lights & parade!) and a place to crash after the festivities, you just can't beat it! Even though we live in the San Anotnio area, visiting our very own lovely downtown is a vacation in and of itself!
Good Luck!

TXGirl, I am so glad you posted because I have been wondering what to do for Thanksgiving this year. DH and I just moved to Austin so no family. This sounds like it would be perfect for a Thanksgiving getaway!

One more question, would you recommend a high room or low room in the Marriott? It's one of the preferences you can pick when you reserve. Thanks!!
