Salt Lake City Restaurants
We will be staying at the Best Western Plaza hotel in downtown SLC in early July. Our daughter will be playing in a volleyball tournament at the Salt Palace. Since the hotel is so close to the Salt Palace we would like to try to save money and not rent a vehicle. Are there any reasonably priced family restaurants that are conveniently located if we have to walk and rely on public transporation? Any help will be greatly appeciated.

You'll find a host of affordable, "family oriented" dining options within walking distance in downtown SLC.
Well-known chains:
Macaroni Grill
Buca di Bepoo
Olive Garden
Applebee's (at Gateway shopping center)

Salt Lake has great local places, as well. Two I'd recommend for casual dining are Tony Caputo's (Italian deli) and Red Rock Brewing Co. It's fun to see the view over downtown and eat at the Garden Restaurant at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, too.
There's no reason to rent a car downtown, especially since the TRAX (light rail) is free within that area.

Now that you have me thinking about it, a fun place to stop for great gelato is in the food court plaza of the Crossroads Mall on South Temple.
Since you'll be there in July (and for a VB tournament), I can't think of a better treat.
