Salt Lake City area
We will be spending 5-7 days based in the SLC area in August with 2 teens. We're thinking of a day trip to Park City, maybe a day trip to Antelope Island, a day trip to Provo hoping to do a river raft experience (no need for white water; just want to be on the river and scenery). Also want to do some hiking. Want to avoid hours in the car driving. Any suggestions???

One of the more scenic areas near SLC is the Cache Valley and Logan Canyon. Drive north in I-15 to Brigham City then follow US-89 through the Cache Valley to Logan and on into Logan Canyon. I'd continue all the way through the canyon to Bear Lake before turning back. SLC to Bear Lake and back is easily doable in a day.
Also, while in Logan, one of my favorite ice cream stores is the Ag Dept store on the campus of Utah State University. Scrumptious!

There is wonderful hiking in the Snowbird/Alta ski areas---just a half-hour drive from Salt Lake City. You can hike to various lakes, or ride the Snowbird tram up to the top of the ridge and hike down through meadows and wildflowers.
Snowbird also offers an alpine slide and a zipline (but it's not a very exciting one). Also a huge climbing wall, but you'd have to check on the hours it is open.

Hi Peg,
Yes, hiking in the Snowbird/Alta area is incredible. Carpets of wildflowers and a few moose for sure. Go very early in the morning as parking is very limited in the Albion Basin. I also love Barbara's idea of Timpanogas Cave. It's amazing, but you do need to make a res for a time slot.
Your teens would love a day or two in Park City. Highly recommend the Utah Olympic Park, where the nordic jumping, bobsled, luge, and skeleton are held. They also have an awesome zip line (as does Park City Mtn Resort), and a brand new high tech alpine slide. On Saturdays, the aerialists put on a show where they go off the "summer" jumps into a pool. Must get tickets in advance and worth every penny!
I don't believe there is any commercial rafting on the Provo River. It's a serious river and not one I would try on my own, although some people do.
