Safe hotels for single women

I am coming for a long weekend to just shop. I have been to NYC a few time but all of the hotels are so expensive. I was just hoping to find a rack rate room at a good chain like the hilton or sheraton hotels. Does anyone have any ideas. I would like to stay midtown and easy to get everywhere. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks in advance and have a great holiday!

Hello there, I'm not really an expert on this or anything as I just came on the boards to ask other people for advice. But, I'd figure I'd let you know that I had a lot of luck with priceline for getting hotels. I ended up getting the downtown hilton for $115 and a friend of mine got a hilton in midtown for $120. I've never been to either hotel before so I have no idea if they are any good, but the reviews I've seen were decent and the price is definitely good.

As both a native New Yorker and now a traveling Floridian, I've stayed at many New York Hotels.

To be honest, try Priceline! I just stayed at the Mid-town Hilton for $149 a night, which is awesome for NY.

All the major hotels are in pretty safe places and most now are on lock down at night, meaning you will need to show ID and Key to get in.

I agree that you probably will do best on priceline, but you also might check www.hotels.com for other suggestions and you can see what the hotels are offering for rates for your dates of travel.

Have a great time and if you need any suggestions on places to shop let us know.

Priceline is definitely the best option for what you want. If you bid 4* only in midtown east, midtown west or upper midtown you should be fine. A weekend is a good time to get bargains in midtown during the summer. Please read biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com and have one of them help you to construct a bid. YOu can also see which hotels and at what prices people have been winning.

Meantime you should book a cancellable option should you not have luck on Priceline. Travelzoo.com is a great place to find specials. Right now the Hudson is available on some dates for $169. While the rooms are very small there, it would be fine for 1 person. They usually get new listings on Tues/Wed so you might want to wait a few days.

quikbook.com is another place to check.

Any decent trouist (vs transient) hotel is safe for women travelers. Agree that Priceline is the way to go for discounts - but stick to 4* - since some of the 3* are not that pleasant or in conveninet locations. (You will not want to pay rack rates at any of the chain hotels -they;re outrageous.)

Thanks to all of you. I will try Priceline, because I can walk anywhere in NYC to shop. This would be my first time to NYC alone. I have done ATL., Chicago and so on. I just think NYC would be so much fun to do some really serious shopping. Thanks again, Liz

Liz,

If there are any specific stores, or types of stores in which you are interested, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Aileron,

No particular store in mine just macy's, bloomingdales and Lord and Taylor. I am shopping up north, because they are different buyers compared to down here in Louisiana, plus I have been to Atl., Houston, Dallas are all the same, so that is why it is fun to go to Chicago and NYC. I am used to Chicago and it is easy to get a round a place that you are familar, but since it is my 40th bday coming up I wanted to go to a different city to shop without spouse, since I am going to Chicago in 3 wks for vacation, so I will shop there so when I get back I will def. decide on MYC. Thanks for all your help. I bet you know all the stores, the first time I went I wass overwhelmed with the entire city, since I have been back 3 times. So maybe this time I can shop instead of having to rush back to someone. What are your favorites stores, since I am used to department stores, you must know of some really nice boutiques. If you can list them off of the top of your head I would really appreciate that. Take care,

Liz
