Royal Lahaina
Does anyone have any information good/bad about the Royal Lahaina (Royal Hale) in Kaanapali?
How are the rooms, service, price etc...
What is nearby? How is the beach? Any other recommendations in the vacinity?

My husband and I stayed there a couple of years ago on a quota-club trip so it was free for us. But I think the prices there are much less than other hotels in the area such as the Marriott and the Sheraton. It's an older hotel and it shows but it's not bad. The restaurant is ok for breakfast but no ambiance for dinner. We ended up getting coffee at an onsite coffee shop and setting by the beach each morning. There is a shopping center near by that has several very nice restaurants that look out over the ocean.
The hotel is right on the ocean which is nice. We went to the luau at the hotel which was very entertaining and the food was very good. They cook the pig in a pit on the beach each day - interesting to watch how they do that!
We ended up going away from the property most days and evenings for activities and dinner, using the hotel only as a base. We didn't order room service. We spent some time in Lahina (sp?) which we enjoyed very much. You'll definately need a car.

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina last year. We had read many negative comments about the hotel AFTER we had booked it. The hotel was fine(not sure what kind of accomodations you are used to but we dont stay at the Ritz. We were booked into a garden view room which had a partial ocean view. The room was clean and the bed was firm. As said by the previous poster dinner wasnt great but the breakfast buffet was a good deal and we ate it several days we were there. The bus system to Lahaina was really good too it runs into Lahaina and the other resorts on Kaanapali. We used it almost daily for dinner, shows, and shopping in Lahaina.
The beach was really nice. We went down and lazed away several days.
Now...good things having been said.
The resort charges a ridiculous $10.00
"resort" charge each day.The fee covers
Parking, extra coffee each day, etc. We thought they should have added it to the quote and not surprised you when you got there.
The activity desk isnt helpful (as most arent in Maui)they just tried selling their trips.
We would definately stay their again as the location is wonderful. DO NOT pay rack rates here though...it is mainly used by package dealers and rooms should be much cheaper than rack.
Hope this helps.
