Route 1 from Portland to Bar Harbor??

Does anyone advise driving Rt. 1 from Portland to Bar Harbor?? We'd like to visit Camden but what about the traffic. We would make this trip on Sunday. Thanks for any reply.

We drove to Camden last weekend and were concerned about the construction reports.

I meticulously planned a route (from NH) to avoid Route 1 to our inn in Camden, which worked out just fine.

There was NONE going on, on Route 1, or Route 90.

On Saturday, we drove to up Route 1, then to Stonington. Nothing. On Sunday, we drove to Boothbay Harbor and back. No construction delays in either direction.

Locals told us all has been postponed until after Labor Day.

According to the restaurants and shopkeepers in Camden, it was a dreadfully "quiet" July 4th weekend.

Thank you for the info. Since I never driven on Rt. 1, is it slow going between the towns? Starting at Portland, we plan to stop at some towns on our way to Bar Harbor. Is this a full day trip? Is there a time we should avoid driving?

Driving US1 is one of the highlights of visiting Maine. Shouldn't be missed, though you can do it just one-way.

Driving north on a Sunday shouldn't be too bad. Most people will be driving south on a Sunday.
