Romantic winter weekend

My husband and I are planning a nice romantic weekend in January sans children. Looking for suggestions for a romantic getaway within a 5 hour drive of Detroit. Not looking for the big city adventure of Chicago or Toronto this time. We ski, both downhill and cross country, and enjoy good food. Has anyone out there had experience at the Homestead? We like that part of Michigan very much, but willing to expand our horizons. Thanks

I prefer Crystal Mountain in Thomsonville, MI (www.crystalmountain.com) to the Homestead as fas as skiing is concerned, but the Homestead is a nice place and very family oriented.

Ever heard of Bayfield, Ontario? Book a few days at The Little Inn - website is www.littleinn.com. You can stay @ the lodge across the street, or @ the inn proper. Four-star dining, special weekend packages (including dining/wine extravaganzas), the great Canadian exchange rate (!!), and you can ski out the door. About 2.5 hours or so from Detroit. Very close to Grand Bend and the Pinery (Ontario Provincial Park) - awesome cross country skiing. Ask for the fireplace/jacuzzi suite. Most rooms have 2-person jacuzzi. This is one of the most romantic weekend spots we've found. We love to sit in the parlor and read by the fire sipping Grand Marnier. There are several unique shops and restaurants and even a day spa in town. Nice spot for walking around, off the main highway so very little traffic. Beautiful this time of year! You won't be disappointed.
