Despite the sheer volume, can someone please recommend a quality (no price concern) restaurant for a 25th wedding anniversary dinner. I'm staying in Waldorf Astoria -first visit to NYC from Ireland.

For an outstanding meal, Gramercy Tavern, Babbo, Daniel.

One if By Land, Two If By Sea has long been talked about as the most "romantic" NYC restaurant, although I've always thought it was overrated. GoTravel's suggestions are good, and you may also want to consider Aureole--one of the best NYC restaurants, in a lovely old townhouse, beautiful setting and great food (especially desserts).

Definitely Gramercy Tavern!

Atelier in the Ritz Carlton on CPS.We went there for our anniversary and it was wonderful.The food and atmosphere were great.This resturant will give you a great taste for upscale New York Dinning.My second choice and very close would be Daniel.

I always head over to Le Bernardin..french seafood..Incredible chef! fixxed price menu--expensive- but well worth it!

Harper, if you could detail what kind of atmosphere you desire we can likely plug you into a well suited restaurant.
My favorite in NYC is Gramercy Tavern also, but it's not 'fancy', it's casually elegant--it has a definite romance factor but not classically so.
Places like Atelier, Fifty Seven Fifty Seven and Le Bernardin are more classic in their atmospheres.
Many of the restaurants have websites with photos you can browse.


Also, go to www.menupages.com and you can look at actual menus from most of the better restaurants in NYC. That'll help you fine tune your decision as well. (Simply type the name of the restaurant in the search box).

I've had a wedding and an anniversary in NYC and would recommend the following:

Veritas [fixed price but splurge on the amazing wine list]
Daniel [because they will treat you like royalty - contact DB's assistant]
Alain Ducaisse - because everyone should eat there once [and you did say no price concern]

Whatever you choose, have a wonderful time.

La Grenouille is a classic French restaurant that has one of the nicest rooms of any restaurant in NY. If you want English country type decor, then One if by Land, if you want a flower filled room with fairly private tables, then La Grenouille.

harper- Just a heads up== You need to make reservations at all of these exactly ONE MONTH prior to your date needed...

Just keep calling the restaurants...and hopefully they will have availability..

It's not even one month for some.
I believe Gotham is now 6 weeks.
Hopefully most restaurants will try to remain consistent at 1 month.

I've made reservations at nearly all of the above mentioned restaurants MUCH less than a month ahead, if you have a little flexibility with what time you can eat, I wouldn't worry, a week or two should be fine, especially for during the week. One if by Land is overrated, but a nice, romantic atmosphere. My favorite restaurants are Le Bernardin and Aquavit (both seafood). Amazing food, service, just completely top-notch.

For something off the beaten path and less touristy, try WD-50 or Tabla, Union Pacific, both very eclectic and creative cuisine. Also, a very romantic, french-influenced restaurant is the Chelsea Bistro. Have fun!

Right near the Waldorf is the famous Four Seasons restaurant. The pool room is quite pretty. The new restaurant L'Impero (Italian) has gotten great reviews for both food & decor (near the UN). I'm also a fan of Auerole, already mentioned. Any of the old, classic French restaurants like La Caravelle, La Cote Basque, La Grenouille are always wonderful.
