Romantic NY restaurant

We will be in NY during the Christmas holidays. Could anyone suggest a restaurant offering an intimate ambiance that exudes romance?
(budget is not a factor for this special night)

Hey katiekate,

There's another current post asking the exact same question titled "Romantic Restaurant". Lots of good suggestions in there.

I love Petrossian for special nights. Last night we were there and I sat on the Banquet which is grey leather and mink. The food is wonderful as is the ambiance.

As soon as I posted my question, I saw the exact type question from Harper. This pretty much answered my question.
Thanks.

do a search for la grenouille and you will find my comments. I have special place in my heart for this most traditional of French restaurants. My first visit there was well over 30 years ago when it was the top restaurant in town and i've been many times since.
