Romantic Las Vegas restaurant

My wife and I will be celebrating our anniversary while in Vegas. We like good food, but are not "real" gourmets...so would like a restaurant with ambiance and a few unique dishes, but maybe a few standards like a great steak. Have enjoyed Spago, possibly a Morton's would be of interest...so any ideas would be appreciated.
Someone mentioned Postrio but to sit outside?

You might want to do a search on this. There was something similar a few weeks ago. At any rate, I highly recommend Smith and Wollensky. They have the BEST steak and a fancy, yet not snooty atmosphere. Their S&W salad is great and so is the split pea soup! They are not in a hotel--located on the strip just a couple of blocks from MGM Grand.

Tom -

S&W is one of our current favorites. Not the best steaks in the world in my opinion but very good. I would call the decor nice/casual/chic. The lobster bisque is good, crab cakes are good (but need a little more sauce) and the cracklin' pork shank is excellent.

Postrio is pretty good. It's at the Venetian in the Grande Canal Shoppes. What was meant by outside is the "faux" outside atmosphere like Forum Shops. It isn't really outside.

I think a really good choice would be Drai's. Don't worry that it's in the basement at Barbary Coast. Go look at it first if you're not sure. Great atmosphere and great food. The waiting area has couches, chairs, pillows, and a fireplace filled with lit candles. Very neat.

Another good choice would be Pinot Brasserie at the Venetian. Excellent every time we go. Great steaks and fries.

And last but not least, Mon Ami Gabi. Decent steaks, excellent bread, fries, scalloped potatoes, escargot, creme brulee and chocolate mouse. They also had a good lobster bisque last time we went but I liked the one at S&W better.

Good Luck!

Lynn

While Mortons has great food...not a very romantic atmosphere. Last time there was loud and noisy. Go with S & W on the Strip.

I just spent a week of culinary adventure in Vegas. I went to look at Drais but we did not eat there. It was in the basement but very fancy and it looked like it could be a romantic place in the evening. We had a wonderful meal at Aureole in Mandalay Bay. The food is upscale but you can get simply prepared steak and seafood. There is a special room that overlooks a swan pond but we did not sit there. It is also very cool because they have a wine tower and the wine stewards tether themselves up to retrieve the bottles. It was very romantic.

We ate at Jasmine's in the Bellagio. I don't know if you can get a steak there (I doubt it), but it is SO beautifully decorated, and very romantic. All of the tables have a view of the Bellagio fountains, but ask for a table in the "sunken" area of the restaurant. The entire restaurant is decorated in shades of pink (not pepto bismal!)and I thought it was very romantic. There is a tiny little intimate bar right as you enter the restaurant. Very cozy. Even the bathrooms are beautiful!! Perhaps you could call ahead, make a reservation, when you get to Vegas scope it out, and then cancel if it's not your thing. Happy Anniversary!!

Oops------I forgot to mention the reason you might not be able to get a steak at Jasmine's........it's an Asian restaurant.

Tom, If you don't want to eat at the various hotels, I highly recommend Piero's on Convention Center Drive. It is a wonderful restaurant and has a great menu. Italian, Seafood, steaks, etc. Its a Las Vegas institution and not "touristy at all. Another great one and more romantic is Andre's. Its off the strip and has very unique food. Last time I was there, I tried Ostrich-interesting taste. It is French food, so if that is not your thing, I would stick to Piero's. You need reservations at both of these restaurants.
