Marta, we stayed at Samoset about 3 years ago and enjoyed our selves very much. We had a 1 bedroom unit and found it satisfactory for just my hubby and me. There was a small kitchen with a couple of burners, frig & microwave. The units were very nicely furnished and very clean. There were washers and dryers available in each building. There was a nice pool and work out area. One restaurant on site that was a little more formal than we cared for. The unit we were in had a diary that people wrote in about various things they did, where they went and restaurants they tried. Made it very handy! I did not see the 2 br. units. We took a trip to Freeport (LLBean and outlets) & a day trip to Acadia NP)and did some driving up and down that area of the coastal towns. We would go back again. Enjoy.

I have stayed at the Samoset a number of times and have never seen a unit like the one described in JoAnns post. Are you sure you were at the Samoset resorts and not one of the Condos? The Samoset is okay but highly overrated. Rooms need an update and the food at Marcels has been just okay considering the high price.

Shari, you are right, we did stay in a condo, not in the hotel part. Sorry I didn't state that in my earlier post. We still liked it though.

Hi Marta,
The Samoset is okay. But, for a more romantic and well-situated place, I would try The Hawthorn Inn in Camden, ME. There website is:
http://www.camdeninn.com/
We stayed there while attending a wedding and it's wonderful.

Marta - I have stayed at the Samoset but in the condos, so I am not too familiar w/the hotel. You don't mention when you would be going and the kinds of things you like to do.

The ocean views are georgeous, they have a great indoor pool, fitness center and indoor raquetball courts. And of course they have a fabulous reputation for their golfing. It is convenient to Camden and a fantastic eat in the rough lobster/ seafood restaurant.

DO NOT MISS THE LOBSTER POT - the bill was $200.00 for 9 people, ALL eating lobster. Also not to be missed is the Sail Loft Restaurant.
