Roadtrip Mpls to Oregon to BC
Contemplating road tripping with 2 kids and puppy late June from Mpls to Oregon.
Trip is based around a race weekend in Sun River Oregon June 21-24.
Driving out of Mpls anytime after 6/15 need to be in Sunriver on June 21-24, need to back in mpls 7/5
Looking to possibly visit friends in Portland, Vancouver Island and Kelowna BC.
Any advice on routes, sites, events during the time frame?

The town SW of Bend Oregon is Sunriver (all one word). Is this the bicycle race? Last year was a disaster with forest fires with lots of smoke. I'm hoping this year will be much better.
Be sure you know the restrictions about taking a dog into Canada.
In past years, the bikes traveled on the Cascade Lakes Highway and parts of Century Drive.

Check the regs on crossing the border with a dog and kids. You'll need vaccination documentation for the dog and probably a letter authorizing you to take the kids into Canada.
What are you interests? Visiting any of the national parks with a dog will be challenging, they are usually restricted to parking lots and very few trails. You can't leave the dog in the car, and it's tough to find a hotel that will allow a dog to be left unattended.

Ditto WhereWeAre's post. Traveling with a dog will greatly complicate things. The 'concept' of traveling with a canine companion seems fun. And some hotel chains are pet friendly. But you can't leave a dog unattended anywhere, can't take them much into National Parks, and some State Parks as well.

It was announced this morning that the Cascade Cycling Classic in central Oregon is cancelled for 2018. The organizers hope that it will take place next year. All participants will be getting their money back.
You are still more than welcome to come to central Oregon. Sunriver is a great place to ride your bike.

I did send hiphopmpls a private message asking them to come back. On May 19 the Pole Pedal Paddle race will take place starting on Mt. Bachelor and ending in Bend. It is a 6 stage race starting with a 200 foot run in snow to your skis then a race down the mountain followed by a 22 mile bike race down to Bend. In Bend you or a team member paddles a kayak or other boat with no oarlocks upstream on the Deschutes River and then back downstream followed by a footrace in Bend to the finish line with the barcoded race bib.
As of today Mt. Bachelor has over 90" of base if you want to do some spring skiing.
