Road trip to Texas

hey all,
My partner and myself are planing road tripping to Texas.
we would like to Hike for a week (day hikes that can take half a day or a day) and than to finish with 2 or 3 days in one of the beaches of the gulf area.
we are students, therefore our budget is quite limited,
thanks,
Yonatan

Robby,
We will leave from Illinois by rented car south,
We heard about the South Padre Island for the last part of relaxing,
but we are also interested in hiking attraction in the area (even a day of driving to any direction).
Thanks,
Yonatan

I was going to recommend Enchanted Rock too; I hiked it with some girlfriends on a weekend trip to Fredericksburg, and it was pretty fun - nice view at the top too.

It's really funny, but I was thinking Enchanted Rock, too. That's why I asked where you were coming from - didn't want to send you too far out of your way. And several of the state parks are really gorgeous and have established hiking trails - check out Pedernales Falls State Park and Colorado Bend State Park.

You should try to spend a night in Austin. Since one of the largest universities in the nation is there, you will find plenty of cheap eats/drinks. Its a beautiful city and is quite different than any other part of Texas.
