Behind the theatre on Pearl Street is Hemmingways a local casual food place... good sandwiches and beef on weck as well as wings... stop there for dinner before the show... or for lunch any day... then you won't need to drive from the hotel...

Not sure what the purpose of that last post was. Sounds like the OP has a nice weekend planned in Buffalo and with Wicked and the Taste of Buffalo she/he will see plenty of people downtown.
I know you are looking for restaurant suggestions. For "Buffalo food" Cole's on Elmwood has good wings. As Gary suggested, Hemmingway's is also good and close to the theatre. You may need reservations or will need to get there early on a theatre night. Check out the Allentown and Elmwood neighborhoods for restaurants and shops. Sounds like you're coming to Buffalo on a great weekend with lots of things going on.

Went to a pre-wedding event on a Fri night-the parking lot across the street the size of about 2 football fields was completely empty. Leaving the bar/restaurant was eerie- we encountered not a car. Buffalo is like a ghost town IMO

I would hardly judge a city by your one-night visit to a wedding pre-event... if there was a huge parking lot, it must be there to hold cars for some type of human activity... if I dropped you onto Chippewa, Hertel, or Elmwood, your impression of Buffalo would have been different... just because your hosts chose a lame bar for the party doesn't justify two posts pounding any city... Where do you live ssvw?... I'm sure we could find a lame pocket there!!!

We just got back yesterday. It was a long trip. We spent 2 days in Niagara falls. We did maid of the mist and cave of the winds. We went to Niagara on the lake (which my kids loved-they said they wanted to move there). In Buffalo, we did the taste of Buffalo festival (and met Chuck Schumer). We also saw Wicked and were rather disappointed. The actress playing Elphaba could not carry that role (this is sharp contrast to Patty Lupone in Gypsy, which we saw in NYC later in the trip). Also did a Bisons game, which was a lot of fun.
We saw some colleges for my daughter and overall had a fabulous time (despite the fact that my older daughter caught some sort of stomach bug).
The baseball hall of fame was also great, and of course NYC is indescribable.

Glad you caught this KathyK - I missed it, too!
themishmans - I'm glad you had a good time. Too bad about Wicked. I was so disappointed because I had to give up my ticket because something came up, but everyone I know that saw it at Shea's said it was awesome.
