Road Trip from Sante Fe to Taos.

Hi. I'm leaving on Sunday for a week in Sante Fe. We (my girlfriend and I, late 20's) are spending one night at the Fechin Inn in Taos. I've heard there are a few things to see along the way. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. How long is the trip?

Thanks,

Bob

Can't remember how long the trip takes, but do remember the Mission at Chamayo, which is on the. The earth has healing powers. Check it out.

I believe the trip is about 2 hours. A great place to stop is Bandolier National Park. There is a very nice walk and you can climb up to the Indian caves in the rocks. Take water - it can get very hot.

I would take the high road to Taos, through Chimayo with weaving studios, Santuario church, nice restaurant, then to Truchas overlooking Truchas (Trout) Peak and the Sangre de Christo mts. and Rio Grande valley, then through Trampas, both tiny ancient villages. Robert Redford's movie "Milagro Beanfield War" filmed there. Very nice drive, takes 3-4 hours if you get out and take pictures, etc. Can take direct route (68) back to Santa Fe. Bandelier is west near Los Alamos.

Bandalier Natl Monument is pretty cool for hiking or just sightseeing. I was there in June and some of the trails were closed. Some trails and the park was open though. The Rio Grande is also an option--some of those trails were closed also but there was a pretty long one which was open. Ghost Ranch is supposed to be pretty cool but it was closed too and I didn't get to check that out. The ride from Taos is about 1 1/2-2 hours. A great B & B in Taos is the Casa Encantada.

Don't miss the Taos Pueblo for an understanding of the history of the area and it's people. Have the Fechin make a "reservation" for your visit, so that you're not disappointed. Ooops, sounds like you've already been there and back...
