Hi everyone. My husband our little baby and I are planning a road trip from LA to San Francisco in february. We had the idea of renting a motorhome. Spend 10 days driving around

Does anyone have suggestions for renting a motorhome/ campervan , places to park with the motorhome and places that we might visit on the way there , please?

Have you driven a motorhome before? Do you want to drive up the coast, which is spectacularly beautiful, with great beaches, views and parks (and a few towns) (I ask because if it were me, there's no way I'd want to be driving a motorhome on Highway 1).

What are you looking to do - cities, small towns, beaches, redwoods, wineries, parks? California has it all, but we need some idea of your interests in order to make suggestions.

Motorhome + hwy 1 = white knuckles and slow going IMO. And in the rainy season - even more so.

W/ the price of motorhome rentals, gasoline, and campground parking - I'd imagine driving a car and staying in motels would be cheaper.

BTW there are no places in SF that you can park an RV overnight except a lot near Candlestick Park--not my idea of a great location.

In fact, if you were to park in that lot near Candlestick Park, I'm not sure how you'd get into the city to sightsee (I suppose there might be a bus line but it's not anywhere near BART).

We would like to see a bit of LA plus the coast and some wineries plus highlights of SF. The idea of the motorhome sound very appealing and romantic for the 3 of us. Now with your input . I don't know : (

I'd forgo the motorhome too. If you were going to spend your time camping along the coast - hiking, beachcombing, etc., then it might be a good choice. There are some neat campgrounds along the coast, although I am not sure of the status of many of them in Big Sur since we had the big fires a couple years ago - definitely something to check into.

In the towns and definitely LA and SF, a motorhome would be a liability. Parking would be an issue. As others have said, Hwy 1 through Big Sur is really twisty too - in a motorhome, you'll be going 15 mph for quite a bit of the route.

So it really depends on what sort of trip you are looking for.
