We're plannig a trip to Richmond, VA for a party on Dec 15th, and I thought since we would be in town we could drive around and look at some of the tacky christmas lights that Richmond has become known for. Any idea where I can find a map or a list of the homes that are decorated? I am not interested in taking a limo tour - we want to drive around ourselves.

obxgirl - I had visited the tackylighttour.com site, but when I put a search in for Richmond, it came up with places as far south as Hopewell, and we don't want to drive that far. Your list is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

We visited Hopewell on a previous trip to Richmond, specifically to take the Sears Catalog house tour, which I suppose would qualify...

Amen. No one goes to Hopewell unless they have to go there for a specific purpose.

Way back during my Navy days we would go through Hopewell on the way to Chester from Norfolk.

So the next question would be...Why would you go to Chester?

I do admit that I learned something from Robyn. Didn't know Hopewell had a neighborhood of Sears Catalog homes. My first home was a 1920s Sears.

To shorten a long story Birdie, the weekend before Christmas 1953 a buddy and I spent our "48" liberty in Richmond. Movies, The Old Dominion Barn Dance, and other sightseeing stuff.

On the way back to Norfolk Sunday evening we drove into Chester and attended services at the Chester Baptist Church. Afterward the the pastor invited us to the parsonage for coffee and cake and there we met the most wonderful people anyone could meet anywhere.

Some invited us back to Chester, we developed very strong friendships, and it became a home away from home for us.

I always bought the Richmond paper when I happened to be working in Stafford County, and did so the day his obit appeared. Funeral services were in Culpepper and I worked my territory schedule so I could attend that but was unable to stay for the burial.
