Restaurants-Nob Hill Area

Traveling to SF this Friday & Saturday with my wife (first trip) and staying in Nob Hill area. Would appreciate 3-4 restaurant ideas. Mostly American (good steak), medium price range, romantic and nice casual (do most places require jackets?). Thanks

Try Plumpjack Cafe. It will fit the bill nicely, I think.

There are SO many magnificent possibilities. You should do a bit of research. And, not limit yourself to the Nob Hill area...you can easily walk, ride public transportation, or taxi to any number of other fabulous possibilities. Check out Boulevard - the wood grilled beef entrees are unbelievable - and the place is gorgeous, romantic, casual - and the experience, not to mention the food, is worth every penny.

If you don't wish to spend money or wear a jacket, check out Citysearch.

I'm curious. Did Plumpjack Cafe move or is there a second one in SF? Last time I knew it was in Cow Hollow on Filmore, I believe, not on Nob Hill.

No, it did not move. But it's not very far at all, and given that Auger wants romantic, with good food, and reasonable prices, I simply think it's a wonderful fit. Did you have additional suggestions for the poster? I am sure that would be more helpful than asking snide questions.

Auger, Nancy is right. My other SF faves include (but may not be medium price range): Elisabeth Daniel, Rubicon, Tommy Toys, Gary Danko, Hawthorne Lane, and Aqua. I like Boulevard, too, but it's near my work and reminds me of business, so I'm biased against it.

Geez, sorry, didn't mean the question to be snide. I haven't been to San Francisco in two years. Plumpjack is one of my favorites. I thought that perhaps it had moved from reading the post and I was just curious. I do know that they have another restaurant at Squaw Valley and thought maybe they were branching out a bit.

I would answer with suggestions if I had any, but do not know the Nob Hill area at all. Sorry to have offended you, Sherry. It was not intended.

They sure have it in for you Patrick. I didn't see your question as being snide at all.

But if we're not restricting it to Nob Hill, I highly recommend Farallon for seafood, or Harris's for great steak.

Sorry, Patrick. My mistake.

I just recently started coming on here a lot, and it seems like half the time when someone posts a question or a response, they get some sort of snide answer, and I think it's awful. I guess it's made me oversensitive already.

Sorry!
