restaurants near 49th and Lex

I would love restaurant ideas in this general area--breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner? Thanks

There are lots of places along Lexington from 49 st. heading into the 50's for breakfast. For a great bagel, Ess-A-Bagel on 3rd ave & 51 st. is the best. For a more upscale breakfast, the Brasserie at 53 st. just west of Lexington (toward Park Ave.).

Django on Lexington & 46 st is very good. http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...=0&cuisineid=0

La Mangeoire and La Mediterannee are both French on 3rd ave. in low 50's. Both have very good value prix fixe lunch and dinners.

Our Place on 55 st b/w Lexington & 3rd great Chinese. Amma on 51 st b/w 2nd & 3rd exellent Indian.

Thanks so much! I have a few more questions! My 14-year old wants to see the UN--what is the best tour for her age? Best place for Dim Sum in Chinatown? Finally, is it easy to get Hairspray tickets at the TKTS Booth--thinking of waiting till we get there (early April) OH--one more--Is Tavern on the Green REALLY bad? Thought the ambience for our 14 year old would be great! Thanks, again!

I live in the vicinity of this area and, I have to admit and as most locals that live in the neighborhood would swear by, we don’t have the good restaurants as compared to all the other neighborhoods in Manhattan. Most in your area are quite mediocre, at best.

That being said, we do have, arguably, the city’s BEST steak place at Sparks (48th and 3rd), as well as the city’s BEST sushi at Yasuda (43rd St., bet. 2nd and 3rd).

A better-than-average French bistro can be found at Montparnasse on 51st, bet, 2nd and 1st.

I would also add the sushi at Yama on 49th b/t 1st and 2nd as another great option.

It's a little bit of a walk, but Rothmann's is also a great steakhouse at 54th and 5th Ave.

Fusha at 58th and 1st is a fun Asian fusion restaurant that is a favorite for cheaper group dinners.

And if you want to do lunch in the UN, there's the UN Delegates Dining room. They usually have themed cuisine, e.g. in the past they had a 2-week Basque/Spain cuisine theme and currently, they have iirc a Welsh cuisine theme.

Reservations is a must (212-963-7625) and require proper identifications upon entering the facilities, as well as some sort of a dress code.

It is fairly easy to get Hairspray tickets at TKTS, especially for midweek performances. Note, however, that if are talking about Easter weekend, you can probably still get them, but the seats might not be as good.

Maggie's Place is on 47th. Good food and warm, Irish atmosphere.

For breakfast you can try the Midtown Restaurant on 55th btwn 3rd & Lexington. This is not fancy, serves all day (I can only vouch for breakfast though . . ) proces are very reasonable. Check out the reviews on menu pages http://tinyurl.com/27kq8p

Ess-a-bagel has excellent bagels but I would only do "to go" there - otherwise it's like sitting in a busy bus station.
