Could you let us know exactly where you may be staying ? You may be subject to lots of chains though.

Hi mmyk72 - We liked for seafood:

1) Upstream
6902 Phillips Place Ct.
Telephone 704-556-7730
and
2) McCormick & Schmick's
4335 Barclay Downs Drive at SouthPark Mall.Telephone: 704-442-5522

It's best if you call for reservations at both restaurants.
Enjoy!

mmyk72,

If you click on my name I started a thread called "things to do in Charlotte" and there has been quite a bit of restaurant recommendations/talk there. Depends a lot, like SAnParis said, on where you are staying and if you'll have access to a car.

My favorite so far has been Providence Cafe on Providence Road, I've been twice now! I had both trout which was delicious and the second time filet oscar, a perfectly cooked filet topped with lump crab. Cappucino ice cream cake--oh my gosh!!

Oh and we loved Terra, also on Providence Road, my coworker had outstanding salmon there. Good luck and have fun!

Check out Ratcliff on the Green in downtown Charlotte. They strive to use local, organic as much as possible.

We have a plethora of upscale steak house chain restaurants - take your pick from Mortons to the brand new Del Friscos. In the Southpark Mall area, there is a Morton's, The Palm and Del Frisco, as well as a Mccormick and Schmick for seafood. Be wary - some of the upscale eateries (McCormicks and Oceanaire included) were recently busted for substituting lower quality fish and passing it off for high-end stuff, such as grouper. DNA tests showed a large number of restaurants are guilty of the practice. http://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/....90fa1a6a.html

Thanks for y'all's help so far. I'm staying in the Ballantyne? area, south of town.

I'll have a car. Don't mind driving 15-20 min away from the hotel.
