Restaurants & other tips for Ft. Lauderdale?

Will be in Ft. Lauderdale later this week for 4 days and would appreciate any restaurant recommendations from locals or anyone who's been there recently, particularly for fresh fish/seafood, although I enjoy all types of food. Prefer moderately-priced places (under $25 per person) but the occasional splurge is fine.

Also any tips on things to do, sightseeing, etc. Is a trip to the butterfly place worth it?

I've reserved a rental car but it has been suggested that I may not need it and could get by with taxis to & from the airport and water taxis elsewhere. Any thoughts on this?

Lisa,

Here are a couple of my restaurant recommendations within the Fort Lauderdale community:

Marks Las Olas

Casa D' Angleo - Federal Highway

Jackson Steakhouse

California Cafe

Burt & Jacks

Aruba - Lauderdale-by-the-sea

Lisa,
It isn't fancy eats.... but you can't get much better than sitting on the upper deck of Sloppy Joe's. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and all the sights below. AND, the best Key Lime Pie!!!! As far as the car, we spentd a week there without a car and didn't have any problems getting around. However, we love to walk and don't think much about LONG walks to get to wherever we want to go. It is a fun town; I know you will have a good time.

Hi Lisa:
Something we did and enjoyed was the dinner cruise on the Jungle Queen. Kind of Hokey but the ride down the New River to a private island with all you can eat and a cute show. We had fun and alot of laughs. www.junglequeen.com
Have a great time!

There is one restaurant,Shirttail Charlies, that is on the water, resonably priced and offers a free sightseeing cruise before or after dinner. The food is good too.

the seawatch restaurant in pompano beach has always been totally terrific. haven't been there in a few years but it really is great. right on the ocean. ask for a table with a view. it's lovely and the food is great. all fresh seafood and fish. great key lime pie as well.
