Restaurant Reservations
We're off to Maui in a week. We have luau tickets already and have reserved a special dinner for the last night.
Should I make all of our dinner reservations before going or would calling the day before be sufficient? I'm worried about our schedule being too rigid if it involves too many reservations, but would hate to miss out on some places. In particular, we were thinking of eating at Sansei, Pacific O', and Cafe O'Lei.

Good choices on Sansei and Pacific'O. They both have fabulous food. Pacific'O is right on the beach. We are on the island now and tried to make reservations at Sansei a day in advance and all they had was after 9:30pm. However, they do take walkins--around 7-8pm it will be 45min to an hour wait. If you go earlier, the waits are shorter and 5:30-6 early bird dinners are 25% off. If you do make reservations at either restaurant, 3-4 days in advance is fine. Also, the other restaurant on Maui that is an awesome experience is Mama's Fish House. Best for lunch when it is easy to get a table, the prices are less, and you can see the ocean in daylight.
Have fun!

Sansei a wonderful choice. Re Pacific'O, they tend to have more meat dishes. Next door, same setting, same owners, is I'O (see www.iomaui.com ) They do more seafood, and is one of the most special restaurants we have ever eaten at, both for the quality and presentation of the food, and the setting.

Here's a link to my TR from last year - it includes some restaurants for Maui

I'll second Pacific'O and be sure to check out the Waterfront at Ma’alaea reservations advisable there.
