Restaurant near Radio City Music Hall

We have tickets for the 8pm Christmas Spectacular in mid-November on a Friday evening. Any recommendations for a nearby restaurant suitable for 4 adults and 2 children (ages 7 & 10).

If you want casual, how about Ellen's Stardust Diner?
Its on the corner of 51st and Bway...its kinda' kitschy with singing waitstaff and 50's motif, but I think it will be fun for the kids. Go early to avoid the rush.

If you want something upscale, this would not be the place.

There are very few reasonably priced places near Radio City, so walking a couple of blocks west is a good idea. I am not a fan of Ellen's but if you have kids they may like it.

There are also restaurants right in Rockefeller Center, but they are hardly reasonably priced. Rock Center Cafe is the cheapest; it's right along where the skating rink is, and they do have a pre-theater prix-fix that's not horrendously expensive as well as a kids menu. But don't expect to get out of there for less than $50 per adult and $30 per kid. Food is acceptable but really mediocre.

The entrance to Rock Center Cafe is on the lower concourse level between Banana Republic and Starbucks.

If you want a bit more upscale but still family friendly with very good food and quite festive around the holidays, I can recommend Beacon
http://www.beaconnyc.com/
on 56th Street between 5th and 6th.

Thanks for the input. Not looking for upscale. The Stardust Diner looks like a candidate. What about the Heartland Brewery which is on the Radio City website in their listing of restaurants and right in the vicinity?

heartland would be appropriate, especially with children. it's "reliable" pub fare, not sure if they will take a reservation. no harm in checking.

Well, we chose Heartland. The beer was excellent, the kids had the 2 mini cheeseburgers w/fries from the kids menu. They seemed to enjoy it (there was plenty of ketchup?) As for the 4 adult meals, they were all awful for various reasons. I would go back only if it were for just the beer and maybe some nachos.

Winston -- your experience at Heartland is the same as mine has been. Food there started out okay several (7+?) years ago. Now it's downright awful. Beer only.

Heartland is really a pub. The food is OK after you've had enough of the beer - otherwise don't touch it.

I used to love lunch at the Heartland, and couldn't pass up the buffalo burgers or the buffalo chili, but I think both are off the menu now in favor of more "neutral fare". No?
