renting a car to go to Sanibel I. from Ft. Meyers?
Hello, we will be staying in ft. meyers for 7 days... is it worth renting a car to go to Sanibel/Captiva for a day trip, cost? Also, any recommended night clubs in Ft. Meyers and/or restaurants? All of us girls late 30's to late 50's.. love to dance, have a fun atmosphere and celebrate a very special bday..all input is welcomed...in advance, thank you! Also, recommended beaches for shellin'?

I think it's worth the time to go to Sanibel/Captiva. Really nice islands and a totally different atmosphere. And the shelling is fantastic. Wish I could help with the name of the beach, but we hired a guide who took us to a great beach and never got the name. Sorry.

How do you plan tot ravel otherwise if you do not rent a car? Are you planning to just stcik in the area around your hotel for hte 7 days youa re there? Are you staying in Ft Myers or on Ft Myers Beach? This info will help with restaurant suggestions.
Either way I would take the trip to Sanibel, as it is very different from Ft Myers/Ft myers beach so you'd get a different flaver for that day. The shelling can vary widely depending on currents and tides but a good consistent place to go is blind pass, the area between Sanibel and Captiva. Park on the Captiva side and shell around the Captiva side of the jetty for larger sized shells, and on the Sanibel side for more sweet delicate shells.
