I'm sorry, man. Reno-hot spot is generally reserved for the grating on which bums find a nice warm place to sleep. Next time, Sport-o do yourselves a favor and do what any self-respecting mid-life guys do -- meet in Vegas.

Yeah -- why go experience the smaller, less-crowded natural beauty and hometown feel of Reno when you can join a billion people like flopmeiseter in the artificial tackiness of Vegas?

$20 mininums at the blackjack table? No thanks!

Besides the place I suggested for dinner, you guys might want to go to the "Brews Brothers" micro-brewery and nightclub at the Silver Legacy, which also has a martini bar nearby. It's probably the one that will be guranteed to be most crowded with a mix of 30-something+ tourists and locals -- male & female.

The Peppermill, JA's Nugget and the Atlantis are also good casinos but they are a drive from downtown -- as are most of the good locals bars.

For adult-oriented entertainment, there's a place called the Wild Orchid not too far from downtown and another more upmarket joint called The Gentleman's Club. Never been to either strip clubs, nor the brothels that are not too far a drive in the next county.

The Gentleman's Club is across the street from a Reno institution called The Turf Club -- the pre-cursor to today's sports books. You can get a beer and a good hand-made sandwich for under 3 bucks while you bet on your favorite pony or basketball team.

Unfortunately, the University of Nevada baseball and basketball teams will be out of town this weekend.

Finally, no trip to Reno is complete without a trip to the 50s-stlye diner in the back of the littlest casino downtown, The Golden Nugget (not to be confused with JA's Nugget in Sparks). Try the Awful, Awful special -- featured on Comedy Central's Insomniac -- it is the biggest burger and basket of fries you'll ever see. Just right for an after-midnight post-gambling soak-up-the-poison meal.

As long as you don't expect Vegas, you'll have a great time with your buddies. Enjoy!

I live in Reno and the chamber of commerce et all have been fighting for years to clean up Reno. Now they are starting an expensive trench project, so maybe downtown will be a lot nicer in the future. I love the mountains and the area around reno, but not downtown. Have you thought of going to Lake Tahoe? Of course it is cold up there, and the weather forcast for this weekend is snow. By the way, the peppermill is a good place to go in Reno. Nice and the food is good.

I second the recommendation for the Wild Orchid. These negative nancys complaining about Reno are really overstating things. Okay, it's not Las Vegas, but there is still plenty to see and do in Reno and surrounding areas. With the mountains around the city, it's definitley more scenic than Las Vegas.

Staying downtown puts you in the center of the action and you can walk to the casinos. I usually stay at Harrahs, but the Silver Legacy and Eldorado are also quite nice. Other activities to consider are checking out the National Automobile Museum, daytrip to Virginia City, as well as golfing. The closest brothel (Old Bridge Ranch) is about 10 miles from downtown Reno. Take exit 23 of of highway 80 east of Reno (775) 342-02dt back in 2000.
