My husband and I are going to Maui in July for our 2nd anniversary and my 30th birthday. We are thinking about staying at the Renaissance in Wailea. We are not the "country club" type, but enjoy staying at nice resorts and eating good food! The Renaissance seems to be an affordable resort that is on the sophisticated side. Any comments, suggestions, opinions? Thanks for your help!

My sister in law stayed there before it became a Renaissance. The restaurant there is good as are the grounds. There is an entertainment rate which reduces the amount by one half. I can let you know how to get this if you are not familiar. I would not hesitate staying there, but please look into the Four Seasons, first as this was once rated as one of the best if still not in Maui. The Four Seasons had a stay 4 night, get a fifth free. You need to know that this property has a system where the rate includes parking, fitness centre, tennis, cabana usage and 1 hour daily free snorkelling gear for 2 . Unlike most other hotels. My friend's daughter stayed there for her honeymoon last month and she said it was to die for. They can't do enough to please you and are terribly friendly. Hi Annemarie! Are you talking about the discount in the entertainment guide? Anyway...we've already taken a honeymoon...we are looking to go in style and spend some money, but not TOO much money....is the Four Seasons much more expensive than the Renaissance? Any ideas/opinions are greatly appreciated!

We are staying at the Rennaissance in February. We are going to attend our daughters wedding in Maui and it is our 35th wedding anniversary. A lot to celebrate.
Is the luau at the hotel any good? If not, what is a good suggestion.

If you stay in Wailea, you have got to try a restaurant called Carrelli's by the Beach. It is the most romantic restaurant as it sits right on the beach. Request a table with an ocean view and you'll see and hear the ocean just feet away. Its located between Keihei and Wailea just across from the Maui Hill Condo's. Also, if you want to try a romantic dinner cruise, try the cruise on the Navitek II. Although there may be alot of Japanese tourists, the food is great, the boat stable (its a catamaran), the dining area is enclosed by glass windows, but you can venture out onto the upper deck. For in depth info on resorts, including a 360 degree view of the rooms try Pleasant Hawaiian Vacations on the internet. One other thing, if you want to stay at the best Resort on Maui (the Four seasons being a very close second) try the Grand Wailea Resort, or you can look at it on its own web site as well.

My wife and I spent a week at the Renaissance in early March and had a great time. We had a big room with two king size bed and a patio (lanai) overlooking the ocean (a must). Food was good but you will want to try the local restaurants for the best food on the island (Mama's, Sea Watch, etc.)
For the absolute most decadent resort I have ever laid my eyes on, then go to the Grand Wailea, truly must be one of the most incredible resorts on Earth. Huge galleries and grounds, please just take a night and walk around the grounds. I did our third night there and was left speechless.
However, if you want to save $$, then the Renaissance is a great choice with great accomodations, a nice beach and pool. Have a great time, I'm jealous. E-mail if you have any questions
