Renaissance Mayflower VS JW Marriott
Trying to compare Renaissance Mayflower & JW Marriot in DC. Both close to attractions.
Rate JW Marriott is $94(not including breakfast & parking) AND Renaissance Mayflower is $149(including parking & breakfast).
If anyone has stayed at either or both of these hotels, please recommend which one is an overall better hotel? Thank you.

I have stayed at the JW Marriott and thought it was nice. I think $94 is a really good rate there. It is about 2 blocks from the metro and is within walking distance of many attractions. Plus it has an indoor pool that opens to an outdoor courtyard in warm weather. I have never stayed at the Renaissance Mayflower, so I'm unable to ofer an opinion there.

Since you mentioned parking, I assume that means you will have a car with you, and since hotel parking can be very expensive, that's definitely something to factor in. Other than that, it just depends what you're looking for. JW Marriott is a very nice hotel, more modern, close to White House, monuments and museums, but not such an interesting area to be in at night. And $94 is certainly a great rate. Mayflower is very beautiful and historic, very close to Dupont Circle and lots of good restaurants, shops, and bars, but not as close to most tourist attractions. Both are close to Metro stops, which is definitely the most hassle-free way to get around the city. Given what it includes, $149 is also quite a good price. My personal preference would be the Mayflower, but both are great hotels, so it's just depends what you're looking for.

JW Marriott if you are planning to running around, are in DC to see and do, and of course if traveling with young ones -
Mayflower, is refined, charming, older and far more quiet- I have been to both - traveling alone or with just my partner, I prefer the Mayflower, traveling with friends or the kids, JW - both have fine service -

Wow, $94 per night at the JW Marriot!
I'm jealous, we're going in June and I couldn't get anything anywhere near that rate. I think the cheapest quote I got was somewhere around $160 per night.
From what I've read it seems extremely well located for sight seeing. I would take it in a heartbeat!

Margie,
Here's the secret. JW Marriott was offering a AAA rate of $94 a month ago. The Renaissance Mayflower was offering a rate of $149, which included parking & breakfast. Call the Marriott 800 # & see if above rates are still available. They could be already sold out, in that case, you can wait for any last minute specials or you can check Marriott's website for any Internet specials.

I found out an even better secret. Call the 1-800-Marriott number and ask for the WCTC promotional weekend code. I got the Renaissance Mayflower for $124.00 a night which includes a daily metro pass . These are selling out quickly and only good till the end of May. The JW is also included in the promotion. Good Luck!!

At this latest price for the Mayflower - that's where I'd stay - especially if you can park your car. Washington is not a car friendly city. We already have toooo many cars in the city. Leave your car in the garage and take the Metro wherever you want to go - ask attendants at the Metro for assistance on which line to take and have a simply great time. $124 a day in DC for a hotel like Mayflower is really fantastic.

The Mayflower is a BEAUTIFUL hotel. The JW Marriott is... well.. a basic Marriott hotel. Nothing fancy. A nice, very large (a lot of conventions) hotel. It is closer to the sight seeing activities, though. All said, I would still probably take the Mayflower because of its beauty and superior reputation. If you stay there, ask for Azi at the concierge desk. She is fantastic and will take great care of you. Tell her Shelley from Britches sent you!
