Relocating to PA from NC

Hi I am a born and bred North Carolina girl relocating to Emmaus PA. Can anyone give me advice on the area and how the people are up there? I have a two year old from a previous marriage does anyone know of child based activities in the area? Also any tips for keeping my sanity through a long distance move? Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I live in Bethlehem, which is fairly close to Emmaus and drive there occasionally. I find that entire area rather nice, especially Macungie, which is a neighboring community and rated high on the list for school districts. I've always found "southerners" to be extremely friendly, so I'm sure your idea of friendliness will be dependent on the neighborhood you choose.
My kids are grown, so don't know what you mean by child based activities, but I'm sure you shouldn't have a problem in that area.
I think you'll find our real estate higher than yours in NC, so be prepared.
I've lived in this area for 29 years and love the fact it's close to New York City, the Jersey and Maryland Shores and Philadelphia.

Carolinagirl, I'm a native North Carolinian who lived in Macungie, right near Emmaus, for 13 years, just came back to N.C. (Raleigh) 13 years ago. Real estate in Raleigh was MORE expensive than Macungie for a comparable home, as were utilities, etc. which surprised us. Macungie/Emmaus (and it's schools) are absolutely great; my son was in that system from the age of 11 (and now has a Ph.D. in E.E. so they didn't mess him up too much! ) He graduated from Emmaus High School.

We absolutely LOVED the area, and would have retired there if not for the economic conditions there at the time (my husband's employer went out of business, and after a year, we decided to move to The Triangle.)

I could very happily move back to Pennsylvania today, and be very content. It is a beautiful area! (Though I dearly love my native state.......) Good luck with your move, and please come back and let us know what you think after you re-locate!

As for the people anywhere, we have lived in five states, and have had wonderful friends in each one, and enjoyed the best that each state had to offer. I think there are friendly people everywhere, and life in a new place is what you make it.

Hi everyone. I'm considering a move to Macungie. Currently live in Putnam County NY & work in NYC (lower manhattan). Possibility that I will be able to secure a transfer within my company to PA or central NJ. There is a new community that has caught my eye - Hills at Lock Ridge. Have a few questions for you. Anyone have any info on this community? The Macungie area in general? I have 2 kids - ages 7 & 3. Very concerned about the quality of the schools. Now - for the million dollar question - if I had to continue to commute to lower manhattan for awhile until I can get a transfer -can I do it? Based on my research so far - it would be a long drive to Harrison NJ & then pick up the PATH train. I'd appreciate any info you can offer! Thanks!
