hey there betty,

you'll love the fairfax area!! especially because it's close to the 3rd/fairfax farmer's market, a permanent and famous institution in LA. open 7 days a week. it's a great meeting place, and great place to meet people.

wherever you live, i'm sure you'll have plenty of luck making friends- you seem really nice! i'll keep my eyes open, though after countless moves here there and everywhere, i've been out of the loop for a couple yrs

cwill and Mommar: I've been trying to e-mail Park La Brea Apartments to find out about vacancies but so far, no response. Too popular?

Will try to call them too...

lynnejoel:

Unfortunately we were not able to take the West Hollywood (Fairfax) apartment because the tenant wanted to get rid of it ASAP. We won't be ready till end of January.

If you happen to hear of anything around Miracle Mile, please do e-mail me at: [email protected]

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! --Betty

If you want to be most centrally located to all studios I'd say West Hollywood. I live in WeHo now and it's very safe. Santa Monica is very pricey. You can find great places to live in Venice but just to warn you- a drive from Venice to Hollywood is about 45 minutes in traffic. I lived in a 2 bedroom in Venice a block from the beach for 2 years. Our rent was 2300, which was very cheap for our location. I'm a huge fan of Los Feliz but again if you're going to the west side for an audition you've got a 45 minute commute.
Each of the 3 neighborhoods has a different personality and if you're planning on going out drinking at night you'll want to take that into consideration. Westside is very preppy. Especially Santa Monica and Brentwood although Venice is more laid back. West Hollywood has a row of gay bars on Santa Monica Blvd and the sunset strip is a block north. The strip is very sceny and crowded. Los Feliz is very artsy. There are beautiful safe places in Los Feliz and there are less safe places in Los Feliz. The shopping there is amazing. If you feel most comfortable with artsy tattoed laid back music loving folk then this is a great place to live. So I guess my real answer is: Depends on what personality fit seems closest to who you are.
I'd compare Los Feliz to Greenwich Village and Santa Monica to SoHo. I guess WeHo is a little like Times Square.

Many thanks, Becky!

WeHo is like Times Square...yuck! (Sorry...I am NOT a fan of Times Square, having lived in NYC the past 17 years.)

But convenience is definitely a factor. I could always live in WeHo, but hang out socially in Los Feliz or Silverlake (for music, clubs, etc.).

Cheer!
