Do y'all know about Atomic Ranch magazine? Check into if you are interested in mid-century homes and furnishings. LOTS of ads in the back for reproductions - as well as stores with vintage. Seems to be a lot of them in Palm Beach.

LOL, I had the same thought, J_C. I toured the house when it was open. You'd have to take it back to the studs and start over. Figure at least another 300K for renovations and remodeling on top of the 900K to buy it! I'll drive past today to see what's up and will report in on the final sale price whenever it's published.

Hi, we are moving from TX to Cupertino area for work. There are so many places to choose from; right now we are in family mode with 2 boys who live for sports. We are v social and prefer friendly neighbors. Any recommendations on neighborhoods, places to avoid? I am impressed by the new duplexes & townhomes- they will not come with the renovation drama of a 50 yr old place. However do these type places trend toward younger adults/DINKS? We won't fit in at "Melrose Place" Also, all the schools are quite above average; if you live in Cupertino, Sunnyvale, etc. does it really really matter which one you go to?

Hi, I am new to this site too... but I wanted to chime in. Speaking from personal experience, we left the Bayarea 4 years ago for Ohio after our daughter was born. Yes, we really miss the weather, excellent scenery, etc. but couldn't see raising our kids there with the public schools not being as good and so much traffic to deal with. If there is any way even just one of you can go out there first, you'd have a better idea of what you're dealing with. I wish you the best though, California is so beautiful. It just depends on what you want. For us we really wanted one of us to stay home with the kids and it wasn't happening in CA.

I take the light rail myself. The Cambrian area is nice and affordable for the area (near hwy 85). I don't deal with a lot of traffic getting to and from the light rail (7 or 8 minute drive). We are close to Los Gatos and a 1/2 hour trip to the beach. It's a LOT nicer here than in So Cal. I'm a bay area native of over 50 years, and I know of what I speak.

Thanks for the input. We are coming out to look around soon. Who knows, we may take the easy way out and rent initially until we get a feel for where to invest. I know we will love it, and the tech scene is the best. We are lucky that we are moving for an excellent job!
