I've never been to the Valley of Fire, so I don't want to give you a biased opinion. I think it's a little further away, though. I've heard it's fantastic- maybe someone who's been there can offer an opinion on that park.
Red Rock is quite beautiful and is an easy drive in an afternoon. There's some good hiking and trails as well as wild burros. Sometimes, we drive through it on the weekend, just for fun.

I've been to both. Red Rock is a lot closer to Las Vegas; Valley of Fire is about an hour away. I thought Valley of Fire was much more impressive and diverse. At Valley of Fire there are petroglyphs, arches, a slot canyon and amazing red rock scenery. It's very much worth the extra time to get there!

I can't comment on Red Rock Canyon, but Valley of Fire was fantastic! I kept waiting for the roadrunner and Wyle E. Coyote to come zipping by! We didn't drive ourselves, but took a tour. We use Action Tours - www.actiontours.com - whenever we go to Vegas. It isn't cheap, but they take you off road on the way to Valley of Fire. We saw landscape that I've never seen before. We drove across some federal land where scenes from star wars was shot - very eerie looking. We saw a wild horse, too. Then back on road and to Valley of Fire. It was a great half day away from the Strip. Have fun.

i've been to both and i like valley of fire better (although red rock canyon is really beautiful too). i agree that valley of fire is more diverse. you must do the white dome trail. the scenery is just awesome. actually you can walk all the trails in a day if you get started early enough.
i'll be going back there the next time i'm in vegas.
