I like some of the ideas and suggestions offered here.
My input would be this: you're spending too much time in Las Vegas. If you're arriving Monday night, you want to be doing things that night. Vegas comes alive at night; people sleep during the daytime and the really great daytime activity is to go to the all-you-can-eat buffets (just a slight exaggeration). Tuesday in the day time, visit Hoover Dam as suggested, night time do more of Vegas.
The suggestion to fly from Vegas to SF is an excellent one. Southwest Airlines has several flights and my suggestion is to cut short your time in Vegas and fly out of there Wednesday morning.
Get into SF by midday and do whatever you would like to do (you haven't stated your interests). Thursday stay in San Francisco.
Friday start your drive down to Los Angeles. If you start early you can get to Cambria or even Santa Barbara. This is a beautiful part of California, you do not want to rush it. Besides which, it's better to stay out of LA that night and rest north of it. Then continue down to LA and San Diego for the rest of your time in California.
You'll have spent the time you would have spent in Las Vegas in both LV and SF. Much better use of your time, IMHO.

Best way of getting to the sites you want to visit is planning ahead the itinerary and figuring out where to go each day. In that way you don’t loose time going one place to another. New York City is a pretty big city so transfers are time consuming. If you are not interested in paying for tours (that I don’t recommend) I suggest you buy the City Pass that allow you to enter to most of the listed sites you included before. It is a bit expensive but if I recall correctly it gives you the chance of reentering the sites as much as you want up to 3 times. But I guess it also depends on the type of card you buy.

The City Passes for NYC are a REALLY bad idea. It is practically impossible to get to enough places to make them pay (many of the sights are free at acertain times or pay what you wish all the time.
And the so-called express lines are illusory. Most sights don't have lines (no more than a couple of minutes) and the ones with lines - the pass only gets you past the ticket buyers line - you still have to wait on the entrance lines.
Much better to decide exactly what you want to see.do and then walk or take the subway and just do it. It is important to group sights in the sane areas but for that you need a good subway map and a street map with sights and hotel marked.
