Recommendations of Hotel in Union Sq SFO

MDW has vetoed our trip to NY in September as TOO expensive. Instead we will try San Francisco, 8 days in early September, hotel recommendations in Union Sq area around $180 -$240, close to transportation, restuarants, bars, safe!,Comp Breakfast?,

I used Priceline and got the Hyatt Grand for $65/night. It is right off Union Square, very convinient.

No free breakfast, but highly recommend the Hotel Rex. Stayed there for 6 nights in May, would stay there again. Lori's Diner right on the corner, Cafe Andree in the hotel is awesome.

Like J Correa I like the Hyatt Grand at Union Sq., right on Stockton at Post.

Also enjoy the Villa Florence which is part of the Kimpton Group, one half block south of Union Sq. on Powell.

Neither includes breakfast but the Villa Florence has a complimentary wine hour each evening.

Others love the Monaco on Geary, just west of Union Sq., another Kimpton Group hotel..little more upscale.

There are so many hotels around Union Sq., you will have quite a selection.
Do enjoy your time in SF.

Had a great stay at the Crowne Plaza up on Sutter at Powell, a couple of blocks north of Union Square:

Business-oriented, but the hotel's restaurant was adequate, the bar was great (friendly bartenders go a long, long way) and the location can't be beat. Bring walking shoes!

Last month I had family and a friend visiting and helped them find a hotel. I did a lot of research and came up with the best prices on Expedia (didn't try Priceline).

The Palace was $150 per night! It's a fabulous, historic hotel on Market at New Montgomery close to Union Sq. area. But I just checked on their site with some dates in Sept. and it is $500+ now.

I like older row-type hotels that have at least some character - like the York or the Cornell. Maybe not the fanciest but they still have some style.

So I suggest plugging in your dates on Expedia, limit the search to Union Square, and see what pops up. Ask further questions about a hotel that interests you.

I wouldn't wait very long to book someplace as September is a heavy convention month and cheaper rooms will be gone. That's probably why the Palace is over 500 as of now.
