Recent experience with baggage on USAir

I'll be flying on USAir soon (I hope) and was wondering if anyone has seen any recent baggage nightmares with that carrier.

Obviously, they got lots of bad publicity during Xmas, but I'm wondering if they seem to have things straightened out for now.

BTW, my flight is Phila-Orlando.

If it is too late for you to change the flight (and not that you should do so) anyone else's experience would be totally irrelevant and the "bad" ones that might be reported here are simply going to make you worry.

Why are you putting yourself through this unless there is a viable alternative that you are going to USE if everyone sayd, "Don't do this"?????

You asked; I'll answer:

I'm considering whether to try all carry-on or check my luggage. Recent experiences will give me some clue as to what's the better way to go. That's the "viable alternative."

My son flew Boston-Charlotte-Savannah on 2 January with checked luggage. Son and luggage arrived at same time without incident.

Thanks for the responses, especially the one about Phila. I think I'll give checked baggage a shot and see what happens.

Even on the infamous 12/26 baggage meltdown date, most USAir customers had no luggage problems. And few ever post here saying - "My luggage arrived fine" since that is to be expected.

While annoying as anything if luggage is misrouted, few luggage is ever permanently lost - and if it is not there when you get to destination, airline will deliver it to your home or hotel (frineds got caught in 12/26 mess and had their luggage delivered to a remote island rental in the Caribbean)
